The successful candidate will head a research group at the DZNE °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô and is eligible to become the speaker of the DZNE site in °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô. The DZNE °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô has its own research building and currently consists of six research groups with numerous affiliated clinical research teams at the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research (HIH), the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience (CIN) and other departments of the Faculty of Medicine and institutions of the °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô Neuro Campus. It also has full access to a variety of research programmes within the Helmholtz Association.
The site has high-level expertise in both basic and translational activities in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
Applicants should have an internationally recognized level of excellence in the field of neurodegenerative diseases with a forward-looking and innovative research concept that complements the existing research at the DZNE °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô ().
Moreover, strong leadership experience, excellent networking skills and the ability and interest to represent the DZNE °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô in the DZNE network, the Helmholtz Association and in the scientific community are required. Active participation in joint (consortium) projects at the °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô site is expected.
The professorship is intended to participate in teaching within the Interfaculty Graduate Training Center of Neuroscience. The teaching commitment is two hours per week during the semester.
Prerequisites for appointment are several years of relevant scientific experience and postdoctoral qualifications equivalent to the requirements for tenure as well as proven didactic skills. The successful candidate should be internationally recognized for outstanding academic achievements and be able to demonstrate proven leadership skills and successful acquisition of third-party funding.
Parallel to this professorship, a W3-Professorship in Neurology with a Focus on Neurodegenerative Diseases at the Hertie Center for Neurology (HIH and Clinical University Department of Neurology at the University Hospital °Õü²ú¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô) with its own research group is being advertised. Close synergies between both professorships as well as between the HIH and DZNE more generally are desired. A co-affiliation is possible.
