Full Professorship (W3) in “Mathematical Statistics” (f/m/d)

to be filled as of April 1, 2026

The research focus of the successful candidate should complement the existing research groups at the Institute for Mathematics in the area of Mathematical Statistics. We are seeking a mathematician with an excellent research profile in modern developments of Mathematical Statistics, for example in high-dimensional or nonparametric statistics, Bayesian statistics or causal inference. An engagement with the applied sciences at Heidelberg University is desirable.

An excellent research record, as evidenced by publications, is expected. In addition, participation in academic self-governance and teaching is required, particularly in the planned Masters programme “Mathematics of Machine Learning and Data Science”, as well as in the delivery of foundational mathematics courses.

Applicants are expected to be willing to engage with both existing and new collaborative research initiatives and to play an active role in securing third party funding, in line with Heidelberg University’s excellence strategy. A stimulating and dynamic research environment is offered, with opportunities to join the Interdisciplinary Centre for Scientific Computing and the DFG Cluster of Excellence STRUCTURES.

Prerequisites for an application are (in accordance with Article 47, Paragraph 1 of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg) a university degree, a qualified doctorate, successful teaching experience and (in accordance with Article 47, Paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg) a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or equivalent qualifications.
