IT Systems Administrator (m/f/d) at Munich Data Science Institute

The Munich Data Science Institute (MDSI) is an integrative research institute at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). It is interdisciplinary and cross-departmental in the fields of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The institute acts as a facilitator and multiplier of state-of-the-art data science practices, technologies and IT infrastructures for the entire university and combines and bundles all data-related competencies of TUM. Among others, the MDSI deals with activities in the field of research data management (RDM), e.g., shaping the way data is stored, managed, and analyzed in various sciences and application areas.

In the responsible role of the IT Systems Administrator, you will administer high-performance GPU clusters and perform a variety of IT tasks in a cutting-edge, innovative environment. You will have the opportunity to support leading international research groups in the field of machine learning and data science.

Your responsibility:
  • Administration and maintenance of high-performance GPU clusters (incl. user management)
  • Administration of Linux servers (e.g. Mattermost, database), ensuring network security and user management
  • Point of contact for all IT infrastructure-related questions, setting up (Windows) computers, and technical onboarding of new employees
  • Inventory management and procurement of new hardware
  • Network (and telephone) administration
Requirements:
  • Completed studies at a university of applied sciences or university (computer science, electrical engineering, or similar) or vocational training in the IT sector (e.g., IT specialist, Fachinformatiker)
  • Professional experience in the field of server and network administration
  • Ability to work in a team, communication skills, proficient command of English, spoken and written; German language skills are preferable
  • Experience with high-performance computing, and in particular, with monitoring SLURM-managed clusters and NVIDIA hardware/software would be an advantage
