The Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Lab is seeking motivated candidates with a background in Computer Science (or a related discipline) for a fully funded PhD position for 4,5 years. The lab, led by Prof. Dr. Hanna Drimalla, focuses on advancing AI to analyze social signals and improve human-AI interactions by enabling adaptability to these signals. Our interdisciplinary team works with different data modalities - such as facial expressions, gaze, vocal cues, heart rate, and digital communication patterns - using advanced machine learning, audio, and image processing techniques. To collect realistic data and translate our new methods into clinical practice, we collaborate with psychological and medical institutes around the world. Using AI to assess social interaction behavior and psychosocial distress, our work supports clinical diagnosis and enriches behavioral research. Committed to a human-centered approach, we prioritize fairness, practicality, and transparency. Accordingly, another area of our research focuses on explainable AI in the context of human interaction behavior. Our overarching goal is to create AI tools that are both scientifically robust and ethically sound, ensuring that they can be effectively applied in real-world settings.
