Job description
As a member of the scientific management of BIAS GmbH, which is run as a state institute, you will be responsible for the technical and entrepreneurial management and development of the institute. In doing so, you will continue existing activities of BIAS in the field of laser material processing and processing systems, such as laser beam joining processes, joining of lightweight materials, additive processes and microstructuring. At the same time, you will further develop the Institute's profile with your own focal points in the field of materials processing that are appropriate to the Institute, thereby increasing the national and international visibility of BIAS.
We are looking for a motivated researcher (f/m/d) who has an excellent track record in one or more of the above-mentioned and possibly suitable new fields, is application-oriented and has a strong connection to industry and can thus successfully build a bridge from research to application. You have experience - preferably acquired in industry - in leading interdisciplinary teams, strategic planning, acquisition and implementation of national and international development projects. Involvement in the management of BIAS gives you the freedom to further develop both the scientific activities and the organizational structure of BIAS.
In addition, you will competently represent the topics of laser material processing and material processing systems in teaching and basic research as part of a professorship in the Department of Production Engineering at the University of Bremen. The personal union of the university professorship and the institute management has proven itself over many years and is a guarantee for successful cooperation in research and teaching. The focus of the professorship should be on innovative processes and a holistic and resource-saving approach to innovative, laser-based manufacturing. In addition, we offer the opportunity for the appointee to network in existing initiatives of the state and the university, e.g. in the “Aerospace Research and Transfer Focus” of the state () or in the MAPEX Center for Materials and Processes of the University of Bremen (). Engagement in academic self-administration and a contribution to the modernization and updating of teaching and study programs are a common part of a professorship. The ability and willingness to teach courses in German and English are required.
Prerequisites
Recruitment requirements include a completed academic degree in an engineering or comparable discipline, a doctorate in a related area, pedagogical aptitude, a willingness to participate in further training in higher education didactics and to promote young academics as well as a habilitation or equivalent achievements, which may also have been achieved in an industrial environment. You must have integration and leadership qualities, including skills in considering gender and diversity dimensions in research, teaching and personnel management. Ideally, you will have international work and teaching experience and be enthusiastic about working with young people.
You are also expected to show a strong willingness to innovate and initiative, as evidenced, for example, by high-quality publications, patents and convincing third-party funding applications.
Appointments are made on the basis of §§ 18, 20 BremHG and §116 BremBG.
