The Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) is one of the world's leading research institutes in the field of animal diseases, animal welfare, animal husbandry, animal nutrition and farm animal genetics. It is part of the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and informs and advises the Federal Government in these areas.

The FLI has state-of-the-art laboratories and experimental animal facilities, including for large animals at biosafety levels 2-4, as well as two insectaria (BSL-2/BSL-3). Nine research groups are currently based at the Institute of Immunology (IfI). Further information about the IfI is available at .

At the headquarters in Greifswald - Insel Riems, the Institute of Immunology is seeking to fill the position of

a Research scientist (m/f/d)
to establish the Vector Immunobiology Laboratory

The position is full-time and will be filled as soon as possible. Appointment will be made in the entry-level position of the higher civil service (A 13 salary group according to the Federal Salary Act), subject to a probationary period.

Tasks:
The Institute of Immunology conducts research on immunity to pathogens causing notifiable animal diseases and zoonoses. The post holder will establish a research group at the Institute of Immunology and develop projects in the field of vector immunobiology. This includes in particular scientific work to elucidate the immunobiology of arthropod vectors and the host immune response to vector-borne pathogens, especially zoonotic viruses. The active promotion of collegial collaboration with scientists at the IfI and the FLI, the acquisition of funding and national and international networking are also important tasks.

Legal requirements:
  • university degree in veterinary sciences, biology or related fields
  • Several years of scientific experience in a research institution
Specialist requirements:
  • In-depth knowledge and experimental expertise in the field of infection immunology, especially insect immunology, immune responses to vector-borne zoonotic viruses, and biomedical research in laboratories up to biosafety level 3
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completed Ph.D. in Immunology or Infection Biology
  • Laboratory skills in virology and molecular biology
  • Experience in working with arthropods in the context of infectious diseases
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific work, including securing third-party funding and supervising young scientists
  • Experience in personnel management
  • Proficient in IT skills and experience in using modern laboratory information systems
We expect an independent way of working, including scientific evaluation and presentation techniques, good administrative skills in project management, motivation and resilience, as well as excellent organizational skills and teamwork ability.

The job involves working in a biosecurity environment, which requires a background check according to the Security Clearance Act (Sicherheits眉berpr眉fungsgesetz, S脺G) and special protective measures against health hazards.
