The Crop Science group at INRES (The Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation), within the Faculty of Agricultural is inviting applications for a

Scientific researcher (PhD position)
(65%)

We offer a 65% (26h/per week) limited to 48 months and a PhD position. The position will be filled as soon as possible to work on DRIVE project. DRIVE is a collaborative research project funded by the BMBF, aimed at developing locally adapted, climate resilient varieties for the future using data-driven approaches. The project involves extensive high throughput phenotyping and field experiments to develop new modeling routines for capturing compound heat and drought stress. Additionally, these routines will be integrated into large-scale climate change impact assessments.

Your Tasks:
  • Analyze crop phenotyping data and image analysis from high-throughput experiments, including extensive breeding wheat variety panels, to develop modeling modules
  • Using data science and AI methods to extract mechanisms and processes
  • Developing and implementing algorithms to detect heat and drought responses among a wide range of growth and development related traits
  • Implementing models with big data to assess climate change impact using crop models under various scenarios
Your Profile:
  • Master of science in crop science or agronomy, environmental scenarios or relevant fields
  • Proficient knowledge in plant growth dynamics and statistical analysis
  • Experience on crop modelling and stress physiology
  • Robust experience with R or Python
  • Proven experience in handling big data
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with excellent scientific writing skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, contributing positively to a dynamic and supportive team environment
