The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft invite applications for a

Tenure-track Position as Full Professor of Digital Medicine in Movement Analysis (salary group W3)

at the Department of Molecular Neurology at the Uniklinikum Erlangen. This is a full-time position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.
In addition, the professor will head a research group in the Center for Sensor Technology and Digital Medicine at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen and will be involved in the CARE-MED research project at FAU. The professorship is initially for a fixed term of six years and will be established based on the “Berlin model” between FAU and Fraunhofer. After a joint positive evaluation conducted by the Faculty of Medicine and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, the professorship will be permanently tenured.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. The research-related and strategic objectives of the professorship are tailored toward the following key research priorities: developing and evaluating digital and sensor-based technologies as well as establishing digital biomarkers for recording movement patterns, developing digital care concepts, health economic evaluations, and research into daily care based on medical engineering.
The professor will also be responsible for excellently fulfilling key priorities in research and teaching, demonstrating management skills in research and technology, interacting with research funding providers, research partners and industry, as well as expanding strategic connections between FAU and Fraunhofer.
The successful candidate will be expected to have extensive experience in heading large interdisciplinary research groups, in the strategic planning, acquisition, and implementation of projects relating to applied research and national and international research projects, and in technology transfer.
The professor will be expected to collaborate in research networks at the Faculty of Medicine (collaborative research centers, research training groups, Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research) and priority programs at the Uniklinikum Erlangen (e.g. medical engineering) and be involved in teaching students. The degree programs taught at the Faculty of Medicine are Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine (BSc, MSc), Medical Process Management, Midwifery Sciences and Logopedics, as well as the programs Medical Engineering and Integrated Immunology which are taught in collaboration with other faculties.
Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree, in particular in the field of kinesiology or health sciences with proven expertise in the area of biomechanic and sensor-assisted movement analysis, and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor).
The successful candidate should demonstrate academic leadership, the ability to support early career researchers and to drive FAU’s strategic agenda. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
FAU offers an outstandingly productive research environment as well as a passionate and multi-disciplinary scholarly community within a vibrant institutional network.
In their pursuit of academic excellence, FAU and the Fraunhofer IIS are committed to equality of opportunity and to a proactive and inclusive approach, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity. FAU is a family-friendly employer and responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
Please submit your complete application documents (CV, list of publications, teaching concept, and research concept [max. 2 pages each], list of third-party funding, list of operations, copies of certificates and degrees) online at by January 19, 2025, addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
