University Professorship (W3) “Design and Fine Arts“


The main responsibilty of the professorship includes the artistic education of architecture students in the Bachelor's and Master's programs in German and English, i.e. the implementation of lectures, practical exercises and seminars as well as the supervision of final theses to the extent of 9 SWS.

In research and teaching, the professorship will also deal experimentally with contemporary artistic issues in the context of architecture. In teaching, the professorship team will teach analog and digital media in 2-, 3- and 4-dimensional design methods. The targeted inclusion of other disciplines is desired in the sense of a transdisciplinary approach.

The development of a research profile is expected that focuses on artistic design principles and is closely related to the topics of architecture and/or the city.

The holder of the professorship represents the subject in its entirety, including externally. As a member of the collegial institute management, you will represent the EKUT Institute and take on a share of the tasks in academic self-administration. Close cooperation with other professors at KIT or the KIT-Department of Architecture is expected, in particular with the Art History teaching unit, and with partners from artistic practice.

We are looking for a personality with an outstanding artistic oeuvre and relevant teaching experience. Applicants understand artistic methods, tools and techniques of art production in the context of architectural issues and design. They can contribute these to research and teaching at the KIT-Department of Architecture. Very good language skills in German and English are expected or the willingness to learn German and English within a reasonable period of time if necessary.

In addition to the general requirements under employment law, recruitment requirements include a university degree in art, design or architecture, pedagogical aptitude and didactic skills as well as special aptitude for academic work, which is demonstrated by a doctorate, habilitation or equivalent achievements.

Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 47 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges).
