The Department for Computer Science in the Faculty of Engineering of Kiel University invites applications for a

W3-Professorship for Security Engineering

to start from 01.10.2025.

The future holder of the position should represent the field of Security Engineering in research and teaching. Security Engineering focuses on methods for the secure programming of software as well as tools for the defense against and analysis of attacks and threats to IT systems. We are looking for a person who has an excellent scientific track record in one or more of the following fields

  • Secure programming, programming languages and program analysis of security properties
  • Secure software engineering: methods and tools
  • Secure systems engineering, in particular system software and security of embedded and networked systems
  • AI for security engineering

Duties include research and teaching at the Department of Computer Science. Furthermore, the successful candidate should be willing to participate in the administration of the department and to serve on faculty committees. Applicants need to demonstrate teaching expertise in computer science. The professorship should in particular cover the field of programming in the introductory phase of the Computer Science and Business Information Technology degree programs.


Applicants must have a master鈥檚 degree and doctorate in computer science. Experience in the acquisition and management of research projects is expected. Knowledge of German, international experience, personnel responsibility and experience with interdisciplinary collaborative research are an advantage


Kiel University offers a wide range of networking opportunities, for example with the ZBW - Leibniz Information Centre for Economics and the Kiel Institute for World Economy (IfW), the Institute of Maritime Energy Systems of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research. Collaboration in joint research projects at Kiel University is desired, especially in the Digital Science Center and in the research focus areas KLS, KMS, KiNSIS and SECC.
