The University of ³Òö³Ù³Ù¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô enjoys high international acclaim, owing to its long research tradition and broad spectrum of subjects in the natural sciences, life sciences, humanities and social sciences. With more than 210 degree courses, we offer an attractive range of subjects for around 30,000 students. ³Òö³Ù³Ù¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô is characterized by the close cooperation of the University, the University Medical Center and seven non-university research institutions that forms the ³Òö³Ù³Ù¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô Campus. Its innovative, interdisciplinary potential creates excellent conditions for cutting-edge research at the highest international level.

The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the University of ³Òö³Ù³Ù¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô invites applications for a temporary professorship with civil servant status (grade W1 NBesO) with tenure track (grade W2 NBesO) at the Department of Crop Sciences effective at the earliest possible date:

W1 Professorship with tenure track to W2 in Grass and Forage Science (f/m/d)

The successful candidate will initially be appointed for a period of three years. If the interim evaluation is positive, the employment contract will be extended for another three years. Transfer to a permanent professorship (W2) shall take place after another positive evaluation without the position being readvertised.

Organisationally, the professorship is part of the Department of Crop Sciences. It will play a central role in the programme of the new AgriFutur research building of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (the application for which is being submitted). This also underlines its role as a link to the Center for Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Use. The successful candidate will be expected to assess the analysis of the sustainability of current grassland and forage production systems, especially on agrivoltaic areas, and promote the development of biodiversity-friendly, grassland-based production systems. This will include studying the interactions between vegetation and herbivores on pastures and developing the potential of herbivores as ecological engineers at the landscape scale. A particular focus will be on investigating and developing the potential of integrated crop/forage production systems for future climate zones and for improved sustainability to address climate change. This will be accompanied by the development of biological and technological innovations to improve the multifunctionality and sustainability of grass and forage production systems.

The successful candidate will have already demonstrated her/his potential in grassland and forage science in the form of first internationally visible publications. We are looking for a team-oriented and committed personality who is willing to cooperate with scientists within the faculty, but also with partners from neighbouring faculties of the University of ³Òö³Ù³Ù¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô and beyond within the framework of DFG collaborative research or comparable formats. In particular, active participation in the new AgriFutur research building is expected after approval of the application and the use of synergies in cooperation with working groups from the Department of Livestock Sciences.

In teaching, the professorship is involved in the Bachelor‘s and Master‘s degree programmes in Agricultural Sciences (Crop Sciences and Resource Management) and the Master‘s degree programme in Equine Sciences as well as in the doctoral programme of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. Teaching is expected in German and English (if necessary, after a training period). The University of ³Òö³Ù³Ù¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô attaches importance to research-oriented teaching. Relevant teaching experience in the field of grassland and forage production science is desirable.
