The Faculty of Medicine of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) invites applications for a
W2 Professorship in Andrology with a focus on Urogenital Inflammations and Infections
as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to § 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Duties:
The professorship is located at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Urology, Pediatric Urology and Andrology. Associated with the professorship is the management of the urological laboratory. Comprehensive expertise in the areas of immunology, microbiology of urogenital infections and inflammations, andrology and corresponding pharmacological models is therefore expected.
Your duties include full representation of the scientific subject in the areas of microbiology of urogenital infections/inflammations and andrology in research and teaching. Your scientific focus will be on clinical basic research of urogenital infections and inflammations. A translational approach to your research is desired in order to be able to transfer the existing clinical human cohorts of various urogenital infections and inflammations into models. The depiction of urogenital infections and inflammations in appropriate preclinical models, such as organoids, urogenital-centered organ models and animal models is also desirable.
You should actively participate in existing research associations, independently acquire externally funded projects and collaborate in national and international networks. We expect your active cooperation in the JLUs- area of potential “Infections, inflammations and active ingredients- and in the accent area “Reproduction- as well as within the Research Campus of Central Hessen in the campus research focus “Microorganisms and Viruses- as well as in the profile areas “Infections and Inflammations- and “Reproduction in Humans and Animals-. You are also involved in the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF).
Your collaboration in other existing structures for the promotion of young scientists and clinicians, such as the Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL), the structured doctoral programme (JLU TRAINEE) and in the clinician scientist programme (JLU CAREER) as well as the DZIF Academy, is expected.
The integration of gender aspects in research and teaching is explicitly desired.
Your teaching commitment of 8 semester hours per week covers teaching tasks as part of curricular teaching within the Faculty of Medicine. In addition, the development and implementation of interdisciplinary cross-sectional lectures and block courses is expected.
The universities of Giessen and Marburg and the University of Applied Sciences in Central Hessen are working together in a research alliance (Research Campus of Central Hessen) as a structured cooperation based on coordinated priorities. It is expected that the applicant shows cooperativeness to university and department-wide collaborative projects.
Requirements:
Prerequisites for the position include a successfully completed university education in medicine, biology or pharmacology, the ability to scientific work for the fulfilment of the tasks according to § 67 Para. 1 HessHG, usually proven by an outstanding doctorate, and excellent additional academic achievements (e.g. proven by habilitation or relevant, international recognized publications).
You should demonstrate success in the independent acquisition of external funding.
You should also have expertise in basic and translational research in your field of research.
Pedagogical aptitude is required.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
