W2 Professorship in Educational Psychology with a focus on the Psychology of Special Education
as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to § 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.Duties:
You are an active researcher in the field of educational psychology with a focus on the psychology of special education (e. g. inclusion or promotion of reading). Your teaching also covers the assessment of special needs and psychological interventions in special education in all its aspects.
Your internationally orientated research profile can easily be connected to at least one of the Faculty's accent areas (e. g. “thinking, learning and working"). You initiate active collaborations especially with colleagues in the field of educational psychology within the Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science and you participate in joint research initiatives.
The focus of your teaching activities is on teacher training for special education (special schools). It is also desirable that you provide a special education curriculum for educational psychology as part of the teacher training in general.
You closely cooperate with colleagues with a specialty in subject didactics, with the Teacher Training Centre, with colleagues in the educational sciences and with colleagues from the institute for special and inclusive education at the Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU). You also work closely with the schools in the region. Furthermore, you qualify students of the teacher training programs for school practice. You support and encourage young researchers and you are a member of one of the graduate centres of the JLU. You are also involved in continued education for teachers.
With your research and teaching, you strengthen and promote JLU's internationalization strategy and support gender equality in research and teaching.
Your participation in the further development of study programs and your commitment to the university's self-administration are expected.
Requirements:
The position requires a university degree (preferably in psychology, educational sciences or special education or a relevant teaching degree program), an outstanding and relevant doctorate as well as additional academic achievements (as demonstrated e. g. by a habilitation or relevant scientific and (inter)national recognized publications in the field of educational psychology or psychology of special education).
You have experience in teaching at a university and you have a record of positively evaluated courses that demonstrate your pedagogical aptitude.
In addition, success in the independent acquisition of external funding should be proven.
Experience in the content and organizational design and reorientation of study programs is desirable.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
The JLU aims to employ more women in academic research. We therefore particularly encourage female candidates to apply. JLU also pursues the goal at faculty leadership level of increased competence in dealing with gender and family-related issues. JLU is regarded as a family-friendly university. Applicants with children are very welcome. Applications from disabled people of equal aptitude will be given preference.
We strongly recommend candidates to refer to our fact sheet on application procedures. Please send your application with the required documents via online form to the President of Justus Liebig University Giessen by January 6th, 2025, quoting the reference number 6-20/24.
