The Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University offers the position of a
Full Professorship (W3) for “General Pharmacology” (f/m/d)
to be filled as of April 1, 2027.The holder of the position will represent the subject of General Pharmacology in its entire breadth in research and teaching and will be appointed Director of the Department of General Pharmacology at the European Center for Angioscience (ECAS). We are looking for an internationally recognized researcher with a proven track record of high-ranking publications and important discoveries, particularly in the field of cardiovascular pharmacology, as well as successful acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects and international collaborations.
The successful candidate should actively participate in the Faculty’s research focus “Vascular Biology and Medicine (Mannheim Comprehensive Angioscience Campus)” and in the Faculty’s research area “Prevention” and strengthen and further develop the research networks of the Faculty such as the CRC 1366 “Vascular Control of Organ Function”. Active and formative collaboration in the European Center for Angioscience (ECAS) is just as desirable as in the Center for Cardiovascular Disease Control (CCDC). Collaboration in other key research areas of the faculty is also welcomed. In addition, close cooperation with the SFB 1550 “Molecular Circuits of Heart Disease” and with the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK), Heidelberg/Mannheim site, is desired. In teaching, taking over teaching responsibility and intensive participation in the further development of teaching in pharmacology and toxicology within the framework of the MaReCuM model study program is expected.
Prerequisites for application are a completed university degree, a qualified doctorate and pedagogical eligibility, which is usually proven by experience in teaching. Furthermore, in accordance with article 47 (2) of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, additional scientific achievements (a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or habilitation-equivalent qualifications) must be proven. In addition, international qualifications in basic research as well as didactic competence, cooperation and leadership skills and commitment to academic self-administration are expected. Moreover, experience in teaching general and special pharmacology is desirable.
The position is a tenured post. Upon fulfilment of the general requirements under civil service law and budgetary law, the appointment to the professorship will usually be made directly on the basis of a lifetime civil servant status.
